Call via internet
join.me allows you to call into an audio conference using free Voice over IP (VoIP) technology.
Internet calling is available for all meetings.
- During a meeting, tap the phone icon.
- Tap Call via internet. Volume and microphone options are displayed.
- Confirm volume and microphone settings and tap Connect.
You are connected to the join.me conference call using the internet (Voice over IP, or VoIP).
Tip: To end the call or adjust settings, tap anywhere to display meeting options and then click the phone icon again. Tap Disconnect.
Internet calling tips:
- It’s best to use a headset when joining via the internet – headsets pick up less background noise and help prevent echo and feedback
- You may want to turn off music, videos and other sources of noise that could interfere with your call
- You can run an audio test under Audio settings
Call via phone
Each time a LITE, PRO, or BUSINESS subscriber starts a join.me meeting we enable a conference line.
The join.me conference telephone lines are not toll-free numbers. Anyone dialing into the conference line may be charged by their telecom service provider according to their calling plan.
The conference number and conference ID are available on the telephone tab for both the organizer and participants:
- During a meeting, tap the phone icon.
- Tap Call by phone.
Tip: Can’t click Phone? You probably aren’t in a LITE, PRO, or BUSINESS meeting.
The conference numbers and ID are displayed.
- Select the number best for your location and dial it using your phone.
- When prompted, dial the conference ID followed by # (pound key or hashtag).
- To call in as organizer, wait briefly after entering the conference ID and then enter the Organizer code starting with *3 followed by the four-digit code and the # (pound key or hashtag).

Call controls
Control your call. Mute all callers, turn off chiming, use keypad commands, and more.
- Allow audio and/or video
As meeting host, you have control over participants’ ability to use audio and/or video during your meetings. - Place participants on hold until you join
When others join your conference before you, you can choose to either place them on hold or allow them to talk with each other. - Use your own conference number
With join.me you can use your own conference bridge or a regular number with multiple lines. - Play a sound when someone joins a call
As meeting organizer, you can turn on/off the beeping sound that plays when someone joins a join.me conference call. - Organizer keypad commands when calling in by phone
Call in as the meeting organizer to customize conference behavior while the call is in progress. For example, turn off chiming, mute participants, or lock-down the conference. -
To call in as organizer, wait briefly after entering the conference ID and then enter the Organizer code starting with *3 followed by the four-digit code.
Remember: Keypad commands are only available when calling by phone with an organizer code during a LITE, PRO or BUSINESS meeting. PRO subscribers on Windows can schedule and start meetings directly from Outlook. Not available for Mac.
Lock a Meeting
- As a LITE, PRO, or BUSINESS subscriber, the meeting lock gives you control over who can see your screen.
- When locked, participants must ask for permission to enter. You decide who can join.
- When unlocked, the meeting is open. Anyone with the code or personal link can join.
- Personal link meetings start locked, while one-time code meetings start unlocked.
- Important:me LITE, PRO or BUSINESS is required – paid or trial.
- To access the lock button, click … (Tools).
Place participants on hold until you join

When others join your conference before you, you can choose to either place them on hold or allow them to talk with each other.
Important: Settings take effect starting with your next conference!
- Log in to your LITE, PRO, or BUSINESS account at https://join.me/.
- At the top of the page, click Settings.
- Under Start the call, choose to either place folks on hold or allow them to talk with each other:
- To place folks on hold, make sure this option is selected: others can only start talking if the organizer calls in
Important: Be sure to enter your Organizer Code when using a traditional phone line, otherwise the system thinks everyone is a participant and the meeting never starts.
- To allow folks to talk before you join, make sure the option is not selected.
- Save your changes. Starting with your next conference, your settings take effect.
Note: If you place participants on hold until you show up, you can choose what kind of Hold music folks hear while waiting.

Line | Draw lines and elbows. Additional icons allow you to change line properties (arrow, dashed or solid, color, and more). Lines and elbows can be used to connect objects. See the “Connect objects” section, below.
Tip: Double-tap to lock the tool and select multiple objects. When locked, the icon is underlined.

Eraser | Activate the eraser. Once selected, the eraser stays selected so you can delete multiple objects. | |
Hand | Move (pan) the canvas with one finger.
Tip: To move the canvas without the Hand tool, drag with two fingers.

Laser pointer | Activate the laser pointer. Tap and hold anywhere to draw attention to a specific part of the whiteboard. | |
Wrench | Select an object and tap the wrench tool to access the following options: Duplicate, Copy, Layers, Properties, Delete.

Fit to screen / 100% | Due to the whiteboard’s “infinite” canvas, you may move so far off screen that you get lost. When this happens, tap Fit to Screen to show the entire whiteboard on the iPad screen. Tap 100% to zoom to 100% resolution. | |

- Use the Line and Elbow tools to connect icons, shapes, images, and text.
- Each object has potential connection points around its border. The number and location of the connection points depends on the type of object.
- A magnifying glass is displayed when you draw a line or elbow connector towards another object. As you get closer to a potential connection point, the endpoint will “snap” to the nearest connector. The connector endpoint changes from blue to red when it is connected.
- A blue dot at the end of the line means it is not connected, and a red dot means it is connected
- Grouping does not affect connecting to objects in a group
- You cannot connect Lines or Elbows to drawing objects
- Multiple lines can share the same connection point

When sharing a whiteboard as PDF/JPG, you can add an image or logo from your iPad Photo Library.
The space for the optional logo is 500 x 100. The logo is added left-justified in the header. If the logo height or width exceeds one of those dimensions, the image will be resized to fit within 500 X 100 while maintaining its aspect ratio.
- On any shared whiteboard, in the top-right corner tap … (Tools).
- Tap Export this document> Email as PDF (or Email as JPG).
- Turn on Add Your Logo, as illustrated.
- Select an image or logo.
- Send the PDF or JPG.
Recordings - Starting, Stopping, Downloading
Record a meeting
join.me PRO and BUSINESS subscribers can record their meetings and save them to join.me cloud storage.
Important: join.me PRO or BUSINESS is required – paid or trial.
What gets recorded?
Recordings include shared content and any conference audio.
What doesn’t get recorded?
Participant bubbles, sounds played on your device, and join.me video are not recorded.
- On any device (PC, Mac, iPad/iPhone, Android) log in to your Join.me PRO or BUSINESS account and start a meeting.
- To start recording, click … (Tools)> Record.

- Log in to your PRO or BUSINESS account at https://join.me/.
- At the top of the page, click Recordings. A list of recorded meetings is displayed.
- Move your pointer over a recording. Some icons are displayed.
- Click the downloadicon (arrow pointing down).
Edit or convert recordings

- Join.me recordings are saved as mp4 files and can be edited and converted using any third-party software product designed for mp4.
- Older Join.me recordings were created using the WebM file format.
- Any legacy recording created in WebM will NOT be converted automatically.
- We do not endorse any particular editing or conversion tool, but they are easy to find via Google, CNET, or any other popular service or search engine.
Storage space for recordings
How much storage space does join.me allow for recordings? How much space have you used?
- A PRO subscription allows 5GB of storage
- A BUSINESS subscription gives you 5TB of storage for the account as a whole
- Log in to your PRO or BUSINESS account at https://join.me/.
- At the top of the page, click Recordings. A list of recorded meetings is displayed.
- In the upper-right corner, look for Recording space used.
Play recordings
Play recordings directly from join.me storage.
Recordings are saved in mp4 format and should play on most devices.
Legacy recordings were saved as WebM and are NOT converted automatically.
- Log in to your PRO or BUSINESS account at https://join.me/.
- At the top of the page, click Recordings. A list of recorded meetings is displayed.
- If you want to play a legacy recording saved as WebM:
- If you’re using Chrome, Firefox, or Opera as your browser, the recording plays in your browser’s video player.
- If you’re using Windows Media Player, you can install a codec provided by Google here:https://tools.google.com/dlpage/webmmf/.
Note: There are also many media players that play WebM files natively, such as VLC Media Player. The WebM Project has a great list here: http://www.webmproject.org/users/.
- On iPad, iPhone, and Android, make sure you have an app that can play WebM files, such as VLC media player. Once you have a WebM player, download the recording you want to view and use Open in…to watch it.
- Click the recording you want to play.
Share recordings (create a link)
Create links to your recordings so others can view or download them.
Warning: Anyone with the link can share it with others, so think carefully before sharing links to sensitive content.
- Log in to your PRO or BUSINESS account at https://join.me/.
- At the top of the page, click Recordings. A list of recorded meetings is displayed.
- Move your pointer over a recording. Some icons are displayed.
- Click the linkicon (looks like a chain).
A link is generated. Share it via email, messaging etc.
How does linking work? Who can see a link?
- Anyone with the link can view or download the file
Warning: Anyone with the link can share it with others, so think carefully before sharing links to sensitive content.
- They cannot make changes
- Your link is not indexed by search engines unless you place the link on a site that gets indexed
Tip: If YouTube is your preferred distribution channel, you can upload your recordings without converting them. However, linking is the easiest way to share your recordings without the additional step of uploading the file to another site.
